For, if it wasn't for him, and others like him ( Dick Cheney) I would be a total atheist. Thanks to these men, a handful of dictators, my former cat Arthur and DC Parking Enforcement, I believe in evil. And, if one believes in evil of this magnitude; I have to admit the existence of " good". The recognition of the forces of good and evil are at the basis of all religious beliefs right? Yet, I'm not too keen on the religious beliefs/doctrines currently out there. For the only thing that I believe about the "beliefs" of organized religion, is that they beget bigotry, oppression, hatred and seems to be at both history's and current-day's major world problems.
I was recently watching the " Daily Show". The show was dedicated to trumping Fox News myths. And, by myths, I mean lies. There's a whole website dedicated to disproving their lies. The website is http://www.politifacts.com. I highly recommend it. For, as Jon Stewart so eloquently said, "Fox news is like a lying dynasty," Stewart said. "They're like the New England Patriots of lying!". Now, I'm not too happy about my beloved Patriots reference, however, we all get the point.
What is making me want to crawl out my skin is the fact that we, as a society, seem to lay back and accept/not refute these lies. Both my parents raised me to understand that there is nothing worse than a liar. I happen to believe the same thing. That being said ( although I've said it many times before), there's nothing worse than Fox News. And now, lord of both the scumbags and substantial wealth, Rupert Murdoch, is being brought up on charges of knowing and/or supporting the illegal wire-tapping of countless celebrities and public figures to out their private lives for the purpose of padding his pockets.
WHAT???!!!
Why are we " ok" with this? Why are we not screaming from every rooftop and stopping strangers in the street to set the record straight.I think that many of us feel superior to their child-like name-calling. We're above it all. We don't sling mud, we read the Times. We don't lie about public figures and destroy lives, we go to brunch and make sure that our children are only eating organic. We're too busy with our fulfilling careers and lies to counter the crazies. We don't feel the need to lower ourselves to their base-less existence.
I get it. Believe me, I do.
We disregard them because we know how much nonsense it is. The problem is, the crazy cream puffs that Fox News, and other media outlets like it, shove down ignorant, borderline-IQ and questionably stable viewers' throats can't seem to satiate them. As anyone who's eaten a cream puff knows, all you want is more. And, the purveyors of crazy cream puffs will never go out of business because they're in high demand.
I am all for cream puffs, of the sane and logical variety. I'm also all for having your own opinions and sticking to your guns. However, when the right-wing media has become the proverbial ( United) Stay(tes) Puft Marshmallow Man, we owe it to ourselves, our democracy and our country to throw on a couple of proton packs and get after it.
Just remember not to cross the streams.
